Japanese Sword Restoration

Even the finest Japanese swords need expert care over time. Whether your sword requires restoration, repair, or a refresh, Kinzan Forge delivers precision craftsmanship to preserve its integrity, value, and historical authenticity. With over 38 years of experience, master swordsmith David Goldberg restores each piece using traditional techniques.

Our restoration services:

Blade Restoration

The blade is the soul of the sword. Our full traditional polish restores sharpness, removes imperfections, and enhances the Hamon (temper line) and Hada (grain pattern) to reveal the smith’s original artistry.

Fittings & Mountings

Every component contributes to the sword’s balance and aesthetics. We restore customer-supplied fittings, including:

  • Tsuba (guard)
  • Fuchi Kashira (collar & pommel)
  • Menuki (Tsuka ornaments)
  • Seppa (spacers)
  • Custom and antique fittings available (priced separately).

Saya (Scabbard) Restoration

A properly fitting scabbard protects the blade and enhances its presentation. We craft custom Honoki wood Saya with Water Buffalo horn components and your choice of Sageo cord for an authentic finish.

Tsuka (Handle) Restoration

A secure grip is essential for both function and preservation. We restore or rebuild handles using genuine Stingray skin and offer silk, leather, or cotton wrapping for durability and comfort.

We begin every restoration with a thorough assessment to determine the scope of work and provide an accurate estimate.
